This month I’ve really fallen back in love with Pop Punk, not that I ever fell out of love with it, we just drifted apart for a while. (I’m making this sound like a tragic relationship, oh boy). For a little while I was more into singer/songwriter artists, y’know like Lauren Aquilina and Dodie Clark, who are both by the way very high up on my artists to see live list. Musical goddesses! I thought I would share some of the tracks I’ve been loving throughout the start of January, aka my get back into Pop Punk Spotify playlist.
- NIGHT PEOPLE – YOU ME AT SIX
If you know me you’ll know I’ve loved this band since I first heard them during my ‘find out who you are scene phase’ when I was 14. Their new album has branched away from their previous pop-punk vibe into more of a rocky Ballard sound, you’ll know what I mean if you’ve heard it, right? Oh boy, their song ‘TAKE ON THE WORLD’ hit me right in the feels, you can hear the emotion behind every word, and Josh has really put his all into it.
On a side note, I’m really proud of what the band are standing for at the moment with Josh standing up to ticket touts, taking the case to the House of Commons. I wish them all the best, ticket touts are not something that is needed in the music industry.
- WATERPARKS – 21 QUESTIONS
I discovered this band at the beginning of the year when I noticed they were nominated as the best British newcomer of 2016! 10 seconds into the song ‘21’ and I was 1000% sold that Waterparks deserved the award, I just love the raw acoustic sound they have. It’s one of those songs you’ll hear and think I need to learn guitar so I can play this!!
- TRASHBOAT – TRING QUARRY
This track is off their new album ‘Nothing I Write You Can Change What you’ve Been Through’. I remember back a year or so I saw trash at a small venue alongside a couple of other bands, I felt like the biggest fan there. I was standing at the barrier, shouting back the words to every song, the lead singer even said to me after it seemed like I was the only person who knew all the words. I felt like I had earned a Pop Punk fan medal, lame I know.
- DEAF HAVANA – ST.PAULS/FEVER
Deaf Havana is a band that’ll always have a special place in my heart. Their sound has grown and matured over the years as I’ve got older, I feel like I’ve progressed with them. I’m pretty sure their band was struggling throughout 2014/15, there was a rather long period where we heard nothing from them. I’m so glad they’re back making music that is better than ever!
What songs have you been loving this month, let me know I’m always looking for new artists to listen to
