I think there’s nothing worse than sitting in a room in the evening that’s dark and gloomy or WAY TOO BRIGHT that it gives you a headache! It’s the time of day where you want to wind down, chill and become as stress-free as possible; I’ll tell you that can’t be done by having a 100-watt light bulb glaring down on you! Last year I moved out of my family home into shared accommodation and then this year I moved back again, meaning I’ve had to re-decorate/ re-style my room a fair few times.

I thought I would share some tips on how you can make your room feel as homey/cosy as possible:

I think one of the most important aspects of a cosy room is the level of lighting, if it’s too bright you’re not going to be able to wind down enough. This is why fairy lights are one of my favourites, yes a lamp would work too, but it doesn’t give off the same sparkle as lots of little glowing lights. I currently have 5 sets of Primark fairy lights in my room, three of them are neon pink lights and the other two are a warm yellow shade. As it gets later in the evening I’ll turn a few sets off so I’m left with just one on before I go to sleep, this way I don’t go from bright lighting/being wide awake to pitch black.

I think this is such a cheap and easy little extra to add to your room, the fairy lights from Primark are around £2.50 a set and the batteries are dirt cheap. HINT: GET RE-CHARGEABLE BATTERIES, it gets a little annoying having to change a set of three batteries over every 4 days!

I don’t know about you but for me, mess and clutter equals a stressful mind, hence why I’m eager to keep it to a minimum. I find the best way to do this is to spend 15 minutes every day having a quick tidy, this way you’re able to keep on top of it before you’re unable to see the floor.

I think having things that represent you visible in your room will make it feel so much more personalised! You can go about this by sticking up that you love to see and that makes you happy, it could be photographs, Polaroid’s, posters, flags, tickets, anything you like really. THIS IS YOUR WAY TO MAKE SPACE YOUR OWN! BE CREATIVE, GO WILD!

FAKE PLANTS ARE THE WAY TO GO. You don’t have to worry about if you’ve watered them enough to keep them alive plus you avoid the accident of spilling mud EVERYWHERE! I have a few fake plants that I picked up from Primark, £2.50 each, what a bargain. They make the room feel so much more lived in, also they add some lovely hints of colour!

As your bed is one of the biggest features in your room you want it to look as pretty as possible, hence why nasty coloured bedding is a BIG NO! My favourite place to buy bedding from is Primark, I know I’m mentioning Primark a lot in this post it’s just genuinely one of the best places to get budget home bits!

What little things do you like to add to your room to make it cosier?

This is exactly the vibe I’m going for when doing up my room towards the end of the year, I need to have a cosy atmosphere. Fairy lights are definetely my go to and I’ve been picking up lots of fluffy cushions recently! Loved your idea of having things like tickets and polaroids on the wall too, I’ll see if I can find a mesh grid for them.
