1. You’ll end up checking your Instagram feed about 50 times a day, at least
  2. Getting the perfect flat lay isn’t as easy as it first seems
  3. Natural lighting is a blessing but also a PAIN IN THE ARSE, especially when the sun has gone in my 3 pm!
  4. You don’t need to have fancy furniture to have nice photo backgrounds, you can pick up free wallpaper samples from B&Q or get marble sticky back plastic from Amazon.
  5. Blogging takes a heck of a lot of time up, so you’ve got to have your heart in it
  6. There are always ways you can improve but don’t let that dishearten you from creating.
  7. You can learn to work the camera you already own, you don’t need to splash out on an Olympus Pen (even though they seem extraordinary)
  8. Blogging and Instagram seem to go hand in hand so there’s always a slight pressure to get an aesthetically pleasing feed
  9. Fancy themes are an outer shell, it’s the inner shell AKA the writing that counts most
  10. Writer’s block is a real thing, a bloody annoying one, but it doesn’t last forever
  11. Making a long list of blog idea’s is super handy when you have writer’s block you can pick one from the list and knock it out.
  12. They’re so many lovely girls blogging, chat to them, it’s a great way to make new friends
  13. Writing a comment on someone else’s post that is less than 8 words is marked as spam, therefore, harms your SEO.
  14. SEO isn’t one of the WordPress business people like I once thought, it’s Search Engine Optimisation. It’s a complicated one, it’s something I don’t quite understand yet, my understanding is the better your SEO the higher you rank in google when the title is searched. I still need to even learn what my SEO is and how to improve it, there’s a lot to learn.
  15. You don’t need to be constantly buying new products to talk about, chat about things you already own, do life updates, there are loads of other things to talk about!
  16. Having a couple of posts pre-written is rather useful, that way when you get busy and don’t have the time to write you’ll still have content to upload.
  17. Self-hosting your blog becomes more expensive in the second year, it’s a cheap price to start with but then you’re hooked in and BOOM more money. This is pretty much the reason I haven’t switched to self-hosting mine, I don’t have a spare £100 to pay for it, I wish, though!
  18. You’ll get a fair few automated twitter DM’s asking you to follow their blog, all the message does it make you want to unfollow the person, spam isn’t cool.
  19. IT’S SO THERAPEUTIC! Having your own little space on the internet where you can talk about whatever you please

I know I’ve still got so much yet to learn, I’m excited to gain more knowledge around blogging and develop my writing further! Let me know any little things that you’ve learned about blogging, I’d love to know, you might even help me out!

This is so relatable! Especially the Instagram hype, and at least you know more about SEO than me 😅

I 100% agree with all of this! I love blogging but I go through really bad periods of writers block all the time and then i practically give up for 3 months and then all of a sudden fall completely back in love with writing again!
    Great post!

Thank you for sharing. Some great advice, especially about the commenting potentially harming our SEO. And I agree with Susanne that I can really relate to. Currently having a blog block. Want to write but don’t quite feel up to it. Got lots of random ideas I want to explore but not enough background material to enhance them. But I think that reading your post now has given me my blog mojo back. So THANKS!

I love this so much, and agree with 100% of it! Blogging takes up so much time, so you definitely have to love doing it, and I think that is why a lot of people don’t stick with it, as it’s really time consuming xx
