I’ve had many attempts now of starting a bullet journal, however, each time I’ve ended up abandoning the journal and not writing anything for long periods of time. I think this comes down to the aesthetics when you hear ‘bullet journal’ you typically think of the colourful, precisely designed ones you see on Pinterest and you-tube flick through videos. I’ve tried to design mine to mimic the layout exactly of others, that’s where it hasn’t worked for me. Instead of my own creativity being expressed it’s turned into me being disheartened because it doesn’t look 100% like the one on Pinterest.
The whole point of a journal to me is to express how you’re feeling, things you may not want to share with the world to a notebook, to let it out and make yourself feel that tiny bit better. It’s also to help remember plans you’ve got, reminders of dates and things you’ve got to do, doodles you’ve done freehand, stickers and pictures that you want to stick in; it’s not about total precision and accuracy.
With all of that in mind, I bought myself a Leuchtturm 1917, the official book that’s recommended for a bullet journal, this time I’m doing it completely for me. The first page in mine in a list of all the official Disney DVD’s, I’m going to colour in a little square next to the name of the DVD when that one is added to my collection if you can’t tell I’m quite a Disney fan! I’ve set my bullet journal up to suit me, I haven’t pre-done a weekly log for every week of the year because some weeks I just don’t feel like that’s the way I want to write, too much structure isn’t needed. I’ve done pages where I can express any feelings I’ve had throughout the day, I find it pretty handy to do this part towards the end of the day when I’m sat down with a cuppa and a lower lighting level. This way I can scribble down in any order I want, in how many or little words I want and I don’t have to worry about it all making total sense and flowing in a logical order. A chaos mess of feelings.
There are many other pages that you could add into a bullet journal, here are some of the idea’s I’ve had:
- Things to do when you’re sad
- Mood tracker
- Quotes that make you happy
- Songs that you’ve heard and loved
- Moments that have made you smile
- Payday wish list
- Birthday tracker
- Blog planner/ schedule
- Blog post ideas
- Christmas gift ideas
- Saving log
- Recipe’s you want to make
- Movies to see/ books to read
- Social media tracker
- Places you want to go
- Simple to do list
I’ll leave you with that list of page idea’s whilst I go and customize my journal more, if it goes the way I want I may even do a journal flick through post, with just a few of my fav pages later in the year!
