The blogging community as a whole is such a delightful one, it presents the opportunity for new friends to be made online with some extremely lovely people. Throughout my year of blogging, I’ve already made a handful of friends who’ve been so sweet and caring. However blogging isn’t all bright and perky, there are some small little habits that get on many blogger’s nerves, small little things that the community would be so much better without. I’ve spoken to fellow bloggers and came up with a list of what we think are the biggest blogging pet peeves!

y’know the ones that arrive as soon as you follow someone, with the individual asking for you to follow their blog/ accounts before even taking the time to say hello. It’s like please can’t you let me discover your blog for myself! I might have really liked if I scrolled across it but as you’re forcing it on me I don’t even want to click on it. – lifewithktkinnes.com

I know bloggers want to grow their following on Instagram, Twitter, Bloglovin etc, however unfollowing the account as soon as you get a follow back isn’t the way to go about it. It’s not going to create an engaged following, who want to reply and retweet your tweets, as you’ve essentially mugged them off.                                                             laurajacquesaimh.com

For example, blog posts that are titled ‘how to improve your blog photography’ when all they do is tell you to use good natural lighting, could have guessed that one!   illuminated-hearts.co.uk

The annoyance of when you come across a post you’ve really enjoyed reading however you can’t locate the comment section anywhere. pinkdaisyloves.blogspot.com.cy

It’s not overly enjoyable when you bring a blog up on your mobile and you have to scroll side to side, zoom in and out, all the time in order to read the content. It becomes a lot of hard work, you end up losing your place and you eventually give up reading the post.  housewife00.com

When you’re trying to read a blog post and lots of pop up’s keep appearing asking you to subscribe to their blog or sign up for something. Like please, I’m here to read your blog post, let me do so in peace! – notcapulet.co.uk

Hashtags are all good until you start using #name-of-mainstream-event which doesn’t even feature in the post; the name is just included to try and gain views. It’s not the way to go, pretty similar to false advertisement! -izzieberry.blogspot.co.uk

We all know that sometimes bloggers get sent what we call ‘blogger mail’ which is essentially free things to try out, it’s cool if you get it if not nevermind. However, some bloggers tag every brand/ company they’ve mentioned in their post with a hint that they have a few thousand follower the in hope they’ll see and be like oh let’s send them things. @meganaktinsonlife

I think this one speaks for itself. We’ve all been pulled in by a clickbait title at some point, it’s rather annoying when you find out the feature you thought would be in the post isn’t included! – essentiallylily.co.uk

what are your blogging pet peeves?

I agree with all of these pet peeves and this blog post is such a great idea! Really enjoyed it! Xx

  2. March 4, 2018 / 12:49 pm

Those pet peeves can be so annoying! When have we stopped writing blog posts out of passion for the only purpose of sharing it with others and connect with them? 🤦🏾‍♂️ Thanks for putting them together!

yeah luckily I don’t get many automated DM’s at the moment, which I’m thankful for x

  3. March 5, 2018 / 5:06 pm

I think what annoys me most is the follow unfollow game and it’s seems quite trendy nowadays. Or people unfollowing just because you don’t post everyday! I love the idea of this post where other bloggers tell what they dislike most about blogging! xx corinne

  4. March 5, 2018 / 5:13 pm

I love this! All the pop ups drive me insane!! And I think we’re all done with the auto DM and follow/ unfollow game now. It’s just boring. I love that you asked other people what theirs were for this. Makes for an interesting read x

pop ups are the worst I think, especially when you can’t even see the post, I just give up aha x

  5. March 5, 2018 / 5:16 pm

I completely agree with all of these. The one that’s most annoying is the automated DM’s, I’ve leanrt just to ignore them now.

I agree with all of these except the “tagging brands” one! I don’t think it’s always to get collabs or get noticed! I tag every brand that features in my Instagram posts but because other wise people will ask where stuff is from! I love seeing where people get their bits from too – so it works both ways! Auto DMs are literally the worst! I’m so glad I haven’t had one in a few weeks! 😂🌷

  7. March 5, 2018 / 5:40 pm

I hate when people follow then unfollow, it’s so irritating and I usually block them rather than follow them (it seems so irrational to think it will make people follow you?!)
Totally agree on clickbait too, it’s super irritating and I usually won’t read/watch the rest when I realise that’s what it was!
    Amy xx

  8. March 5, 2018 / 5:49 pm

I agree with all of these but most importantly the follow and unfollowing thing, I don’t understand why people do it! Surely it’s just a waste of time and in the long run, they will just be getting a bad reputation which means their blog will never truly grow beyond what they have.

  9. March 5, 2018 / 5:52 pm

Oh my goodness! All of these are definitely my pet peeves. Especially the DM one. I’m so tired of people who I’ve never interacted with asking me to retweet or share there stuff…GUH! I am more than willing to retweet and share others stuff, IF I found it and liked it.

    Anywho, loved the post!

      March 9, 2018 / 9:03 pm

yeah for sure! Like don’t DM a blogger just to use them for a shoutout etc, but my all means message for a chat x

  10. March 5, 2018 / 5:55 pm

I totally added a comment section to my blog after reading this post! I am super new to blogging, and this was great to read! Thanks!

aw that’s okay, when I first got my blog it took me a while to work out all of the features! glad you liked it x

  11. March 5, 2018 / 7:29 pm

Fab post and one which I’m sure most bloggers will relate to! My worst are the pop ups and people following and unfollowing I just don’t see the point of it!!!

thanks lovely, yeah I agree x

  12. March 5, 2018 / 8:35 pm

I hate the ones that are like “How to Build Your Instagram” and the post is all about posting and commenting back… as if people don’t already do that!

    Funny post girl! x

    • bbbryony
      March 9, 2018 / 9:01 pm

yeah 😂😂 like we got that bit, we already post and talk to people 😂 xx

  13. March 5, 2018 / 8:57 pm

I completely agree! Even as a relatively new blogger I know that these are all so annoying and a lot of them just rude! Great post! X

      March 9, 2018 / 9:00 pm

Thanks lovely, yeah most of them can be easily avoided too x

  14. March 5, 2018 / 9:24 pm

Totally agree all of these things are SO annoying! As a blogger I watch out for people that do this and try hard myself not to do any of these things.

  15. March 5, 2018 / 9:27 pm

Yes these are all so annoying – also when (particularly on Instagram) an account gives you a shoutout out-of-the-blue (which is nice!!) but then automatically expects you to return it, which I find so annoying.

Just found your blog through Twitter and I’ve got to say I’m loving it so far – the design is so cute<33

yeah I agree, or when people message you on IG like I don’t know you but you have followers so can you shout me out aha 😂 aw thank you, I’m glad you’re liking it ☺️☺️ xx

  16. March 6, 2018 / 1:06 am

Oh my gosh, I half expected to see my name pop up in amoungst your name and shames! I agree with what your saying in part. I wrote a blog photography post myself back along – you can’t do a photography post without mentioning lighting! I see so many TERRIBLE, badly lit images so not everyone understands the importance of lighting, especially if they’re new to it.

I experienced the no comment box thing on a post I commented on just earlier this evening, (and not the first time). It’s really frustrating so I’m with you on that one!

The whole Instagram tagging thing is more for the chance of getting reposted by the Brand/s giving you exposure to their followers, that’s why I do it anyway!

If a blog isn’t optimised for mobile use I just leave, also with you on that one. Oh and of course pop ups! Hate those too.
Blogging is so diverse you can’t please everyone I suppose. Some people might love pop ups, even if we don’t haha.

Love your no-nonsense, straight talking approach! Go girl!!

    Samantha x

omg no they’re not name and shames, I asked other bloggers what they found annoying in the community and that’s what they replied so I credited them x

      March 9, 2018 / 8:58 pm

Thank you! I know, it’s such a shame it happens so much x

  17. March 6, 2018 / 9:47 am

My pet peeve is commenting on a post asking a question with regards to the post and getting no response. Like why do bloggers create content if they ain’t going to respond to a question?

    • bbbryony
      March 9, 2018 / 8:58 pm

yeah I agree, like sometimes it takes me a while to respond to things but I’ll always try to but if people have no intention on replying why ask aha x

  18. March 7, 2018 / 2:01 pm

I was nodding along to all of these! Another one for me is blog comment etiquette. I have nothing against blog URLs being left in the comments because I love finding new reads (plus I do it myself!). But if you’re leaving your link, at least get involved in the topic and write something that shows you’ve actually read the post rather than skimming through it, typing “GREAT POST!” and leaving your link. One or two word comments are one of my biggest blogging pet peeves! x

    • bbbryony
      March 9, 2018 / 8:56 pm

I so agree, saying great post pretty much means I’m commenting without reading your post 😂 xx

  19. March 9, 2018 / 8:51 pm

Following to unfollow is one of my biggest pet peeves! Also bloggers who think they’re too good to follow other bloggers, that really winds me up.

    Chloe x

yeah I agree, like there’s no way you can always follow everyone but some bloggers just think they’re too good to follow others x
