I’ll have you know I’m a little bit of a Disney fan, scrap that. I’m a HUGE Disney fan. I can’t seem to walk into HMV nowadays without walking straight to the Disney Dvd section to decide which shiny case original to purchase yet, I’ll have them all one day. I’ll have my own house with a shelf that’s dedicated to the DVD’s that are in perfect condition and people who visit will be like ‘wow, that’s a collection’. I’m going off on a little bit of tangent there so here’s my fav old Disney movies (at the moment, they change around every so often)
BOLT – I’m a sucker for films with cute animals in, ones where the whole film you’re sat there like I’m not too bothered what happens but please don’t hurt the animal; I just want them to be okay and live a happy life. Bolt was totally one of those.
TARZAN – “TARZAN, WAS SWINGING ON A RUBBER BAND, SMASHED INTO A FRYiNG PAN, SAID OUCH THAT REALLY HURTS, NOW TARZAN HAS A TAN” Don’t tell me you’ve never heard that camp song before, such a classic; however you’ve still got to prefer the classic film music. There’s just something about Tarzan’s strong relationship with the gorillas that pulls on my heartstrings every time, it just represents acceptance and unity. If you also love this film I’d highly recommend watching the new ‘Legend Of Tarzan’ movie that was released in 2016, it’s a real-life version that follows on from the original story.
MOANA – I was pretty late to the game of watching Moana, the first time I saw it was roughly a month ago when I purchased it on DVD. Within the first week of owning it, I’d watched it 5 times plus I’d constantly had the songs stuck in my head. Whenever I thought I couldn’t do something the quote ‘I am Moana of Motunui, you will board my boat, sail across the sea and return the heart of Te Fiti’ popped into my head, she’s an inspiring little one for sure!
SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS – I feel like this was the film of my childhood, the one Disney film I would have seen so many times I’ve lost count. It just has so much magic surrounding it, so so much magic. Whenever I hear the title of the film I just think of the dwarfs happily trotting along singing ‘hi ho hi ho, it’s off to work we go’ with their cheeky little smiles, it’s such an uplifting tune, how can you not sing along to it?
MULAN – FUN FACT, this was the first shiny cased Disney DVD that was bought for my collection, I was gifted it roughly 2 years ago now by my boyfriend. My collection now is up to about 25 I believe, getting there! Anyway, Mulan, what a strong-minded young woman who always has her family at heart, she’s a little cutie and such a good role model for the younger generation. She’s pretty bad-ass too, she’s managed to defeat Shan Yu’s army to save the emperor and her people, what an empowerment to woman. It doesn’t always have to be the male who’s the hero and saves the day, well done Disney on the whole gender equality!
THE MANY ADVENTURES OF WINNIE THE POOH – I was obsessed with everything Pooh Bear related as a child. I remember first watching this film when I was 7 on a small box television, y’know one of the ones that could only get channels one to five. I thought it was fantastic and that Christmas I asked for every single Pooh Bear character plush from the Disney store (I got them and it felt like magic). There’s nothing more adorable than Pooh and Piglets friendship and the time that Piglet gave Owl his house because his blew over.
It’s a film that will always be close to my heart.
Now you know my favourite Disney movies you should let me know what your ones are!
