I never really take the time to look back over my posts to ‘admire’ or spot any changes as time goes on.
Here I’m going to show you some images of my first ever flat lays and outfit shots and then compare them to what they look like today. Are you ready for this?
This has been so interesting for me to write as it really shows the depth of improvement and thought that has gone into my blog over its time.
A GLIMPSE INTO MY FLATLAYS
MY FIRST EVER:
This is the FIRST EVER flat-lay I posted on my blog which would have been around December 2016. This image and the post it goes with is no longer live on my site; about a year ago I took all my really old stuff down.
I was shooting this image on my Ipod (that’s now broken and I don’t even know where it is). At this point, my white background was a shelf out of my Argos unit, my lighting was just the level of lighting in the room plus the small fairy lights and there was NO editing (maybe there was a basic Instagram filter, I can’t remember but those don’t really count anyway)
Personally (not too big myself up) I’d never really seen the dramatic change in my images until now. I’m sitting writing this post like HECK GAL you did well, how did you manage to improve that much eh?
A YEAR LATER:
A massive improvement already, would you agree?
I’m now using a Canon 1100D to shoot my blog photo’s however they’re still on the same Argos shelf from a year ago. At this point in time, I became obsessed with the fact that everything needed to be plain white or marble or it isn’t ‘blogger enough’, which I’ve now learnt is a load of crap. Just be you.
Can you notice that the marble packing is stuck over my bedroom window so I can use the windowsill as the base. I believe my thinking behind this was ‘I’ll get more natural light in’.
I’m very proud of this image, this may sound lame but I never thought I’d be able to take a product photo that I like as much as this.
I shot this image on my Olympus Pen EPL7 and I edited it on Lightroom. Oh my, I can only begin on how much of a game changer Lightroom was here, I’m talking about the FREE mobile version too. It’s allowed me to create my own preset that I can apply to all of my photo’s to make them my own; due to this photo editing is one of my favourite parts of this whole process.
WHEN I FIRST STARTED:
Outfit pictures never really made it to my blog when I first started, in fact, I hardly ever posted images of myself on here. It’s only recently that I’ve started tip-toeing into ‘fashion’ blogging too, we all change as we grow up and this is something new I’ve grown into.
This image here is shot on my Canon 1100D I believe, in a dark restaurant, I got my boyfriend to take 2-3 pictures so I could choose my favourite. 2 0R 3 NOW I WOULD TAKE ABOUT 70 OF ONE OUTFIT SCENE.
A YEAR LATER:
I believe this picture was taken very soon after I’d purchased my Olympus Pen EPL7.
I’d started to edit my images to brighten them up a little on a website called ‘PicMonkey’, on there I would up the exposure and brightness and that was it.
A shoutout to Lightroom is needed here and to me for learning how to use it, even though it’s pretty easy.
I’m honestly so excited to see what my pictures will look like a years time from now!
I’ll let you make your own mind up on what you think of my photography progress, do you think it’s improved?
