I’m no expert at all, but I’d like to think I’ve picked up a few tips here and there since I joined the platform in 2013.

I’ve had a love, hate relationship with the app; it’s the best thing ever when you’re gaining a following and loving your theme. It’s then the worst thing when the algorithm stops your posts being seen despite you putting in so much effort.

In case you’re not a blogger or an avid instagrammer yourself, you may be wondering how is Instagram a lot of effort? If you want to be posting regularly with outfit pictures, shoot days are a must; these are days totally dedicated to finding nice spots and shooting in different outfits. After that, the work still isn’t over; you’ve got to look through the 400+ images your pal took for you to find the best ones, then it’s time to edit. It’s a lengthy process if you care about your feed!

Over the past year (2018) I managed to double my Instagram following, which is mad! Here are a few things that I believe helped me to do so:

No one can follow everyone on the gram, technically we only have so many follows to give. If someone you follow only posts once a week, you wouldn’t feel very engaged with them as you wouldn’t have that little insight into their life.

I’m not going to lie, I’ve unfollowed people on Instagram before because they haven’t posted for months. It makes then an ‘inactive’ account.

The aim is essentially to keep the audience as interested in your life and possible, the more content you give them, they more engagement there will be. These images also need to be of good quality as the aesthetic is what the gram is all about.

This one is pretty self-explanatory.

If you’re following other bloggers they’re going to be interested in your feed and take a look, here they may follow back. On the flip side, don’t follow people just for a follow back, there is a fine line between the two.

Pretty much, just don’t be an account that only follows 60 people; it just makes you appear a little big headed (in my opinion).

Comment pods are little Instagram group chats where you are able to: talk to other bloggers, like and comment on their images. It’s a great way to boost your engagement, however, they can be a little tricky to always keep up with.

Make sure you’re liking those images that appeal to you rather than scrolling past them on your feed.

If another user sees your name constantly popping up in their notifications they are more likely to check out your feed. plus, it’s just nice to engage, it’s what the gram is all about, it does not just post the picture and disappear.

This is the perfect way to show off your personality and what you’re really like.

You could film yourself talking about a funny story that happened that day or you could use it to do a mini vlog of your day. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to the camera then you could just take some images and write captions.

Everyone loves a good ol’ nosey past the edited planned feed.

Have you got any other tips to share?

I find instagram stories very helpful… It’s so hard to maintain a following. It’s really high maintenance hahaha but I still love this platform 😀 congrats on doubling your following. I can imagine how much hard work it must have been.

I try my best to post daily and would like to say I am very much active on it and don’t just scroll I will always like a picture and comment. I’ve also unfollowed people if they haven’t posted in a while.
I need to get better at doing stories, i hardly ever use it and really need to .
