Summer is well and truly over and with the cold weather settling in, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to look after your health during the colder months. Although it may seem daunting at first, you need to ensure you are doing everything you can to keep yourself during winter. From wrapping up warm to looking after your mental health, you need to put yourself first. With that in mind, here are 5 ways to look after your health this winter:
Ensure you’re wrapping up warm
One of the best ways to look after your health is to ensure you’re wrapping up warm at all times. With the colder weather just around the corner, you’re much more prone to catching an illness, especially with all the colds going around currently. Whether you’re piling on the extra layers or putting on your heating, you need to be sure you are doing everything you can to keep yourself warm. I’ve recently purchased myself a Rab down jacket and a new thin waterproof shell layer, this has been a brilliant investment for me because I work outside in the colder months.

Invest In A SAD Light
If your mental health suffers when it starts to get darker outside, you might want to consider investing in a SAD light. Seasonal Affective Disorder affects as much as 20% of the population, meaning it’s normal for your mood to change as the seasons do. I’m sure I’ve previously mentioned here, if not I definitely have on my Instagram that I am on anti-anxiety and depressant medication. This time of year is when I can feel at my lowest so I’ve been making sure I’m taking my medication every day and tracking how I feel so if I notice I’m feeling worse I can book in with my doctors.
Make Sure You’re Eating Healthy And Drinking Enough Water
When it comes to your health, one of the best things you can do is ensure you’re eating healthy and drinking enough water. Although this doesn’t mean you need to put yourself on a strict diet, it does mean you need to think about what you’re eating and when. When it comes to water, drinking eight glasses a day should be the minimum you aim for.
Keep Up With Your Exercise
Finally, exercise has been known to improve both your mental and physical health. Whether that means you spend 30 minutes a night at the gym or you walk home from work every day, the more exercise you’re working into your routine the better. During the winter, it’s important you’re focusing on exercises that will be suitable during all weather conditions. After all, you never know how bad the weather is going to be! My favourite exercise to do this time of year is to go rock climbing, there are plenty of these centres about so I’m sure there is one near you. If this is something you’ve never done before then I’m sure your local centre will have some beginners climbing courses so you can learn what to do to enable you to go along with your friends.
