TIPS FOR GETTING THROUGH TOUGH TIMES

Life in twenty-nineteen can feel pretty tough at times, it doesn’t matter if you’re young, old, in a good earning job or not, we all have our down days. It doesn’t necessarily mean you have mental health issues or that you’re destined for failure. For many people, it’s merely a case of encountering the ups and downs of life. Still, you’ll want to ensure that you have everything possible to help you through the tough times.

Here are a few tips for getting through those harder days/weeks:

A Group Of Supportive Friends

As a female when we think of supportive friends, the image of a ‘Girl Gang’ pops into our heads and that’s what we think we need. You’re wrong. Damn social media for giving us this ideology that we can’t achieve. At twenty-Two I have a small group of friends from school, a small group from work and other friends I’ve met through other avenues of life.

As an adult Making friends can be tough but it’s still possible, I promise you; sometimes it just means you’ve got to put in that little more effort to find those magical friends. I believe a small circle of true friends is far more valuable than a large circle of unreliable acquaintances. Moreover, real friendships mean more than gaining a few social media likes from the ‘popular’ ones from school. Whether it’s a shoulder to cry on, a distraction or advice doesn’t matter. Their support will be priceless during dark days.

Practicing Mindfulness

A few months ago I went on a course through my work that taught me all about Mindfulness and how helpful it can be in stressful situations. Mindfulness is essentially the process of bringing your attention to the current moment without any judgment; this is through meditation. My favourite app to use to meditate is headspace, the app contains calming music to relax to or fall asleep to. There is also a wide range of guided meditations which aim to help with different situations such as stress, anxiety, falling asleep, performance mindset, productivity, life challenges, sports and many more. I try to spend at least 10 minutes a day doing a meditation on here as it really helps to relax and de-stress me at the end of a day.

Rewarding Yourself

We all need an incentive to avoid throwing the towel in. If you are still struggling to achieve the career you want or the body image you desire, promise yourself a reward. Luxury purchases are a great solution. Checking out vehicles at the local Jaguar dealers can give you the inspiration needed to finally regain the drive to thrive. Other rewards could range from clothes or jewelry to a holiday. Whatever it is that allows you to focus on future success rather than the current slump, use it to your full advantage.

A Plan

An organised strategy is an essential ingredient in the recipe for success. Setting goals and thinking about the actionable steps needed to achieve them will serve you well. Moreover, your mind will be focused on those next moves. Consequently, then, you won’t have a chance to dwell on the situations that are currently harming you. Try setting yourself little to-do lists every morning with 3 things you want to achieve that day, even if they’re only little things ticking them off the list will help you to feel more positive.

Acceptance

Sometimes in life, you have to accept that you can’t change things. Whether it’s accepting a relationship is over, or that you can’t be a film star, these issues aren’t the end of the world. You can always find a second choice dream career. Or join Tinder lol.

One of the most important things in life is to be happy with who you’re are and who surrounds you, make friends who bring a smile to your face and block out those who make you miserable.
