5 Tips For Self-Improvement

Am I the perfect person, do I always do the right thing, do I have the perfect body? I really don’t, but that is more than ok.

However, I like to think that I’ve grown a lot as a person over the years. I’ve made several conscious improvements over the years; I can personally notice that over the past decade my self-confidence has come on miles. For example, as a child, I would be the one who would get butterflies when we had to present a group project in front of the class. I would be dreading it for hours before, I never saw myself as a person who could do any kind of public speaking. Fast forward, 7 years and my job includes speaking in front of 70+ children, groups of teenagers and adults. I’m shocked at myself somedays, I never thought I could become the person that I am today and y’know what I’m really proud of myself, you have to say it sometimes.

I would like to believe that the lessons I’ve learned can help others too, at least I hope so.

Here are 5 things to help you improve yourself:

Reward Yourself

While true motivation comes from within, I believe that having rewards is a key step to success. After all, the power of motivation allows you to achieve anything you want too.

If you’re trying to land a new job, why not promise yourself a new car as a reward for making it happen. A Vauxhall Adam is ideal for new and younger drivers, especially as it won’t break the bank entirely. This source of motivation will be vital when you feel like giving up.

Similarly, a new outfit can be your reward for reaching a new goal weight.

Look After Your Health

Taking care of yourself is always so important, there are several ways you can do this ranging from a bath after a long day, meditation to doing some exercise or eating healthier.

I recently decided that quitting alcohol is the best route forwards for my health, this is due to me suffering with mild anxiety and depression. I am on medication for it and I put so much effort into self-care and I don’t think it’s worth ruining a healthy mind for a glass of wine.

The People Around You Matter

Your road to self-improvement is a personal journey. Nevertheless, being surrounded by the right people is essential if you want to achieve success.

Positive people will inspire you to accomplish your goals. Conversely, negative people will bring you down and lead you to poor decisions. This can seriously harm your hopes of sustained success. It’s a harsh reality, but cutting ties from negative influences is vital.

Sometimes in life, you have to put yourself first.

Plan Your Journey

Before trying to improve yourself you need to set your goals , you can then work on a plan to help you achieve them.

For example if your plan is to become happier with your life, set yourself a goal to join a new club doing something you enjoy. You can then start to research and inquire about clubs in your area before trying a few out to see which suite you best.

On the other hand, if it’s a fitness goal such as losing half a stone you can create a workout plan. This can include what days to work out and rest and what exercises to do to help you lose fat or gain muscle.

Perfection Isn’t Necessary

Last but not least, you need to realise that perfection isn’t necessary. In fact, it probably isn’t even an option. For example, when we think of ‘perfection’ we think of body image and our mind drifts of the models on the Instagram discover page. We are aware some of these images are edited and photoshopped to make their waist look smaller, their bum and boobs bigger however we still aspire for their bodies that aren’t real. Please don’t only settle for perfection because perfection isn’t a thing, being yourself and happy with yourself is how to really be happy. You should be proud of yourself for who you are gal, OWN IT!

I hope these few tips are useful, do you have any other tips to add?
