20 TIPS FOR ANIMAL CROSSING NEW HORIZONS

There are many of us right now spending hours on end developing our islands on Animal Crossing.

Here are a few tips I wish I knew from the start:

 1. HOW TO CREATE A TARANTULA ISLAND

Tarantula’s are worth 8,000 bells each so they are worth learning how to catch. The way to go about catching them is to first travel to a remote island with a nook miles ticket. When you arrive you need to remove everything from the island, this goes for weeds, flowers and tree stumps and then dump them on a corner on the beach. Once you’ve done this all that’s left to do is wait.

When you see a Tarantula appear don’t just run-up to it, when it stands up on its back legs you need to stay totally still so it doesn’t attack you. When the tarantula backs back down you can creep a little closer, repeat this process until you can catch it in your net.

2. THE BEST BUTTERFLY TO CATCH

The best butterfly to catch is an emperor butterfly, they are worth roughly 3,000 bells each.

3. SUNDAY AKA TURNIP DAY

On a Sunday a little turnip selling guy will appear on your island, you need to stock up on these turnips, but loads. This is because when you sell them on in the nook shop they can go for up to 800 bells each, that’s making you a massive profit if you bought each one for 100 bells.

4. HOW TO BUILD MORE BRIDGES

To start with, in animal crossing you’re only able to build one bridge at the point when you’re putting houses on your island. However, when resident services upgrades you’re able to build as many bridges as you like!

5. HOW TO CATCH SHARKS

When you’re trying to catch a shark you need to keep an eye out for a fin above water, when the shark latches on you need to reel in quick. They don’t stick around or long.

6. HOW TO MAKE MONEY TREE’S

When you get a gold beam shining up from the ground, there is a bag of bells there that you need to dig up. Once you’ve retrieved the bells you can plant them back in the hole, this will then cause a money tree to grow. For example, if you plant 1,000 bells the tree will grow bags of 1,000 bells but if you plant 50,000 bells the tree will grow bags of 50,000 bells. It’s a fab way to get rich quick!

7. USE A STONE AXE

In the game when you hit a tree 3 times with an iron axe, the tree will be chopped down, however, this isn’t always what you want. If you’re just wanting to collect wood then use a stone axe instead as it will allow you to collect woods without destroying your trees.

8. COLLECT ALL THE FISH AND BUGS YOU SEE TO START WITH

At the start of the game, Blathers needs roughly 30 donations to be able to open up his museum. The best way to do this quickly is just to catch everything you see, make sure you always have a net and a rod with you.

9. PLANT LOTS OF FRUIT TREE’S

These are a great income source early on in the game, as soon as you get 3 pears to grow on a tree harvest them and re-plant them. Each piece of fruit sells for 100 bells each so you could make a small fortune if you plant enough trees.

10. COLLECT CHERRIES AND PEACHES FROM OTHER ISLANDS

When you travel to a remote island with a nook miles ticket, if there are cherries and peaches on tree’s there, collect them all. They are worth A LOT more than other fruits! – nilyme.wordpress.com

11. MAKING FISH BAIT

This can be done by digging up claims from the beach area, you know there is a claim present when a little squirt of water comes up from the sand. You can then go to the crafting table and turn the clams in fish bait.

This is useful as when you scatter the food into the water a fish will appear right away, also if you’re trying to catch a rarer fish it will give you better odds of it appearing.

12. DON’T BREAK ROCKS

When you hit rocks there will be clay, iron nuggets and stones which come out of them, these are all useful resources. However, if you eat 10 pieces of fruit and then hit a rock it will cause it to break and then disappear. If this happens it can take DAYS for another rock to spawn on your island.

13. LOOK OUT FOR BOTTLES ON THE SAND

These washed-up bottles on the shore will contain a DIY recipe, these you really want as they will able you to craft better tools or new furniture.

14. HOW TO CATCH THE FLOATING PRESENTS

To get the presents that are floating on a balloon int the sky, you need to craft a slingshot. This will able you to fire a stone up to pop the balloon and bring the present down to your island.

15. GET YOUR INVENTORY UPGRADED ASAP

You are able to upgrade your inventory by buying more space with the nook miles you’ve earnt. You can do this by going to the nook miles terminal in resident services, click on the ‘redeem nook miles’ section and buy ‘pocket organization guide’ for 5,000 bells. This will add another row of space into your inventory, meaning you can collect a lot more at once.

There is another upgrade that will appear later called ‘ultimate pocket stuffing’ this will cost 8,000 and allow you to have the fourth row in your inventory.

16. KEEP SHAKING THE TREE’S

If you keep shaking the tree’s you will get more and more branches to fall, you can either collect them or leave them on the ground for when you need them – https://jessxclare.com/

17. DON’T SELL THE WEEDS

Instead of selling all of the weeds you should keep them to craft medicine and furniture which you can sell for more bells – https://jessxclare.com/

18. KEEP TALKING TO GULLIVER

When Gulliver arrives washed up on your beach, keep talking to him as he will eventually give you a reward.

19. USE THE DROP-OFF BOX

Once the Nook shop is built you will find the wooden drop-off box outside. You can use this to sell items to the shop after 10pm when the shop has closed, the money will arrive the next day in the nook terminal bank.

20. METEORS IN THE SKY

if there’s meteors/shooting stars in the sky, press A to wish on them! you’ll unlock a nook miles card and you’ll be able to collect the star fragments from the beach the next day – https://lucykateburton.co.uk/

Visit your islanders in their homes as they might be crafting something and give you the recipe!
I’m fully obsessed with ACNH but still have a long way to go to get my island where I want it to be!
